One of the biggest development projects will begin shortly with the reconstruction of the Avatiu harbour – Rarotonga’s main harbour port.<!--more-->It is envisaged that this project will allow larger container ships and cruise liners to dock into the wharf, eventually allowing more business take place

McConnell Dowell of New Zealand won the tender and will construct the project along with local contractors participating in the exercise. The project is ADB funded and is worth $27 million.

The New Zealand company’s decision to engage with local contractors and workforce has been appreciated by the community.
