Currently New Caledonia ranks as one of Australia?s top 21 export destinations by a number of Australian companies doing business in the location. As a major trading partner this presents unique benefits for both countries.

President of the APIBC and Managing Director of Pacific Air Express, Mr Gary Clifford said, ?Two-way investment was valued at $396 million with $358 million of that representing New Caledonian investments in Australia. New Caledonia is looking to engage more deeply economically with regional countries like Australia and to collaborate in the development of new and innovative industries, creating new opportunities for Australian business to engage with the market.?

At present, New Caledonia?s economy is largely driven by the mining industry where nickel production accounts for approximately 20% of GDP. Other major sources of income are derived from extracting magnesium, iron and cobalt while tourism and fiscal transfers from France are important contributors to the economy.

For those seeking to explore new opportunities, the program covers a variety of sectors. It includes an overview of New Caledonia?s economy, building business partnerships for growth that support Australian and New Caledonian business, innovating in the Blue Economy, and exploring digital futures. There will also be sessions on the renewable energy sector, building relationships between North

Queensland and New Caledonia, Women in Business, and a discussion on developing New Caledonia's tourism sector wrapping up with a ?Thinking Outside the Box? brainstorming session.

The APIBC strongly believes in building effective business relationships between Australia and New Caledonia to support investment and economic growth in the country.
