Air Pacific is now Fiji Airways
Reflecting its true status as the Republic of Fiji’s national flag carrier, Air Pacific has rebranded itself as Fiji Airways this week.<!--more-->
Fiji Airways was the original name of the airline when it was launched in the late 1950s but was changed to Air Pacific when a larger role for it as a regional airline was envisaged for it years later.
The official name change, complete with branding and the introduction of new aircraft, is expected to take place by June 2013, according to a company news release. The new Fiji Airways logo and brand mark and photos of the new layout and interior design of aircraft interiors will be revealed over the coming 18 months.
Detailing the reason for the rebranding and the name change, the airline’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Dave Plieger said, “Our airline is one of Fiji's largest companies employing 800 people directly and an estimated 8000 or so indirectly, and we fly in over 60% of all visitors who come to Fiji, so it only makes sense for us to embrace our uniquely Fijian culture and spirit – characteristics which have seen Fiji consistently recognised by consumers as one of the world's friendliest countries and no doubt helped us win a recent award as one of the top ten small airlines in the world.”
Among the new initiatives announced this week are increase in flights between Fiji and Sydney and partnerships with Singapore Airlines, Rolls Royce, Weber, and Panasonic to design three new Airbus aircraft, a new airport lounge; and the modernisation of the airline's products and services.
