Fairtrade Pacific meeting this month in PNG

Fairtrade ANZ will gather 50 stakeholders from around the Pacific at the second Fairtrade Pacific Sub-Network Meeting taking place in Madang, Papua New Guinea on July 30 and 31. <!--more-->The Pacific Sub-Network is the regional community of Fairtrade certified producer organisations in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific islands.

The meeting is part of the services provided to Fairtrade certified and applicant farmers in the Pacific islands by the Fairtrade ANZ’s Producer Support and Relations project, which gives guidance on Fairtrade certification requirements, helps producers to gain access to the Fairtrade market, facilitates relationships with buyers, and liaises with support agencies to improve the capacity of producer organisations.

“The meeting provides the opportunity for our stakeholders in the Pacific to ask questions about the Fairtrade system, exchange business experiences, and meet and liaise with representatives of governmental organisations, NGOs, traders and other Fairtrade partners,” reports PSR Officer Rachel Levine.

The agenda for the upcoming event includes key information about Fairtrade and certification requirements, general updates from the Fairtrade system, and an update on the Fairtrade market. Highlights will be presentations from Fairtrade certified producers and other key stakeholders, updates from the inaugural year of the Fairtrade Pacific Sub-Network and a discussion about the future development of the Sub-Network.
