With an expected completion date of September 2013, the $290 million dollar investment is expected to bring an additional dimension to Fiji's tourism industry.
Fiji has been well known as a holiday destination that has progressively added a range of recreational and adventure activities over the years, attracting steadily rising numbers of tourists from around the world.
Though it has been a popular venue for regional meetings and conventions, it has so far lacked the infrastructure and the luxury facilities to host large international scale conventions and meetings. The new convention centre, hotel and casino complex will address this lacuna the country’s tourism industry hopes.
The casino-convention centre project is expected to create 900 jobs during the completion of the construction phase and 700 more jobs once the casino, convention centre, and hotel are completed.
Already an acclaimed resort and vacation destination, Denarau Island will now have the capacity to host large conventions and events, welcoming a more dynamic range of entertainment and activity. The project is a joint venture between American and Fijian investors.
