Fiji Tourism outdoor campaign ‘best in New Zealand’

Tourism Fiji pipped world-renowned brands including Berger Paints, pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline and Sanctuary Asia to the post to claim the ‘Best Outdoor Advertising’ title in New Zealand.<!--more-->

The ads on bus shelters around New Zealand were to lure winter-weary Kiwis to Fiji. The campaign saw hundreds of people taking their picture in a ‘cut-out picture frame’ posted at one of the 200 bus shelters across New Zealand. The top prize for the contestants was five nights accommodation for two at the Sheraton Fiji Resort plus return economy airfares flying Air Pacific.

The bus shelter promotion was part of a multi-media brand strategy Tourism Fiji had in place since the beginning of July. It also included a ‘Fiji Me’ digital temperature billboard located on the junction of the high volume traffic in downtown Auckland. The billboard also featured a digital temperature gauge reflecting the current temperature in Fiji instead of local freezing temperatures.

The national tourist office says it is hoping the innovative campaign will help it top the number of Kiwis visiting Fiji across 2011.
