Director Mineral Development, Malakai Finau said the consultative workshop is essential given the current interest from investors on deep sea mineral exploration in Fiji waters.

The workshop seeks to present the Deep Sea Mineral Project to in-country stakeholders by discussing various issues and concerns relating to deep sea minerals and mining.

It also hopes to collectively identify and agree on national priorities and an integrated way forward for deep sea minerals and mining as also providing necessary guidance for implementation of projects.

The Fijian administration had previously approved the issuance of deep sea mineral exploration licences to two investors for mineral exploration into the Fiji waters.
