Kiwis happy snackers

Kiwis spend around $900 million on snack foods – with fresh fruit topping the list.  <!--more-->A Nielsen survey released in November found 97% of people regularly snacked between meals while 34% skipped breakfast.  47% ate snacks instead of lunch and 27% had snacks instead of dinner.

Although chocolate, potato/tortilla chips, cookies, biscuits, bread in order were next most popular – cheese, crackers, crispbread, nuts, seeds, veges and yoghurt were in the Top 10.

Director of Nielsen NZ, Lance Dobson said the survey was a good reference point for producers wanting to better understand consumer demand for snack products.  Quick meals and snacking was a reflection of the busier changing lifestyles of New Zealanders.
