Luring Bollywood

Fiji is looking further afield from its traditional tourism markets of New Zealand, Australia, the US and Europe. This week a delegation led by the Minister of Tourism is on a road show in major Indian cities making presentations and conducting workshops for travel agencies and tour package companies.<!--more-->“India has some of the richest people in the world and their film industry is what Fiji would like to attract,” said Tourism Fiji chief executive Josefa Tuamoto, before leaving for the roadshow.

This year three fairly big budget Bollywood films will be shot in Fiji and the Tourism Fiji office in Auckland told <strong><span style="color: #000000;">Pacific Periscope</span></strong> that there had been inquiries about shooting schedules from Indians living in New Zealand so that they could coincide their trips to with the schedules.

The films are expected to bring several million dollars into the Fiji economy and create hundreds of temporary jobs.
