Manuel Valdez - COO and Head of Investment

During this season of giving let us take time to slow down and enjoy the simple things. <!--more-->It is a time to give and share with one another. May the glorious message of peace and love fill you with joy during this wonderful season. Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year!

Time flies and the year is now coming to an end. It is good to retrospect a bit of what happened in the investment portfolio. For one, we rolled out a series of RSE Financial Literacy and Investment Opportunity Workshop in Blenheim where around 150 people attended and the Western Union was a partner in this event.  No less than the Consul General of Vanuatu, McKenzie Kalotiti, made the presentation during the workshop.

We also showcased the first-ever RSE employer-employee joint venture in the Private Sector Partnership Forum during the UN SIDS conference in Samoa last September where around 200 attended the conference.  The JV Company – Tanna Famas is currently growing coffee, squash, pumpkin, peanut, kava and virgin coconut oil for exports.

In Samoa, we visited the former Samoa Trade Commissioner Apete Meredith who put his upmarket resort facility in Upolu which is widely known as Aga Reef Resort and Spa. No less than Ban Ki Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations stayed a night in his resort. His resort cost around NZ$6.0 million.

We assisted with the launch of one of Samoa’s biggest inward investment initiatives:  the Sinalei Premium Villas project. It is a path-breaking initiative, being the first to put to use Samoa’s unit title legislation that allows foreigners to own land in the country.

Investment portfolio also facilitated the setting up of an apparels business in Fiji.  The firm will hire a top graphic designer in Fiji to make prints for shirts and other apparel for local and foreign markets.

COO and Head of Investment Manuel Valdez gave a talk to the Pacific Wave Conference with more than 100 attendees from private, non-government organizations, government departments and media at the Sky City Conference Centre.  The conference was an opportunity for key stakeholders to discuss how to move the Pacific region further.   Trade Commissioner Michael Greenslade was also one of the panel of speakers in the conference.
