New Guam airline takes to the skies
Originally scheduled for launch last year, Fly Guam took to the skies last week after delays owing to local and international regulatory reasons. <!--more-->The airline, an offshoot of Guam-based operator Freedom Air, will connect Hagatna to Taipei, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Osaka, Manila, Palau and Seoul – all growing markets both in the holiday and business sectors for Guam.
Business traffic has been steadily increasing following increasing activity relating to the relocation of the US naval base from Okinawa Island in Japan to Guam – a six year US$ 15 billion project that is billed to revitalise the economy of not only the western Pacific but the rest of the Pacific Islands as well.
Meanwhile, a 35-strong delegation of businesspeople representing 23 Taiwanese companies is due to start a weeklong business trip to Guam this weekend. Taiwan’s interest in Guam has been rising. Construction products giant Asian Cement already has set up a plant on the island.
