New PTI intern PM scholarship winner
Pacific Islands Trade Invest New Zealand is once again welcoming new summer interns to the office from November through to late January 2018.<!--more-->?Call Pacific Trade Invest New Zealand over the summer fifth year Otago University Commerce/Law student, Sakura Aoki-Danielson of Auckland could be answering the phone. Ms Aoki-Danielson is filling in on reception as previous Office Administrator Haukura Jones has returned home to Northland earlier in the month.
Following her stint with PTI NZ, Ms Aoki-Danielson is off to Keio University in Tokyo on a student exchange programme. But she was also recently surprised to learn she had won the 2017 Prime Minister?s scholarship for Asia along with a Westpac Business Scholarship.
Ms Aoki-Danielson said she was shocked to learn she had the Prime Minister?s scholarship as she entered her application without any expectation of winning. But happily, the scholarships have added something special to her the student exchange. In addition, she can also visit her Grandmother and family who live in Japan. Born in Auckland, Ms Aoki-Danielson?s Mum is Japanese and her Dad, Maori/Samoan. ?I?m a fruit salad,? she said with a warm smile. Although she speaks Japanese she plans to do a Diploma in Japanese language during the exchange and boost her confidence in speaking more. The student exchange programme starts in March and goes through to the end of July.
Ms Danielson said she had always been interested in the effects of globalisation on trade, businesses and trade in services. On returning to Auckland from Japan, Ms Aoki-Danielson plans to pursue a career in international trade perhaps with an organisation such as New Zealand Trade and Enterprise or explore avenues in Diplomacy or Policy.
