Newcrest prospects gold in Fiji

Meanwhile, another Australian mining major is to begin exploration operations in Fiji this month. Newcrest, one of the world’s top 10 gold miners and Australia’s largest, will begin exploration at Fiji’s Mount Kasi in about two weeks time.<!--more-->Newcrest currently has operations prospecting gold and copper around the world – in Indonesia, the United States, Canada and Peru, besides home country Australia.

Speaking to the media, Fiji government Lands Department Permanent Secretary Filimoni Kau said Newcrest had the licence to begin exploration and would begin work “this week or next week.”

The company has a highly successful exploration team with an enviable track record: all of Newcrest’s mining projects were discovered with in house expertise.

Discoveries in Fiji would bring in massive investment into the country and create hundreds of jobs locally.
