Oman signs deal with Marshall Islands

Just as the leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum gather for the annual leaders meeting in the Marshall Islands this week, <!--more-->the tiny atoll nation has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Persian Gulf State of Oman.

The MOU grants reciprocal recognition to seafarers’ certificates to navy personnel on board ships sailing under the maritime administration of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The document was signed at the Ministry of Transport and Communications in Oman last week.

Rashid bin Mohammed Al Kiyoumi, Director General of Maritime Affairs of the Oman Ministry of Transport and Communications and Amarjit Kauchhur, Deputy Commissioner of Maritime Affairs of the Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands signed the MOU.

The MoU comes as part of the implementation of the provisions of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, as well as the Law for Regulation of Navigation in the Omani Territorial Waters.
