Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo revealed the plan while speaking at the National Trade and Agriculture show in Honiara. He said the Ministry of Commerce Industry, Labour and Immigration had already started preparatory work for the establishment of small and medium enterprises hubs in the provinces of Temotu, Makira, Malaita and Guadalcanal.
The ministry has roped in the Small and Medium Enterprise Council and the Solomon Islands Business Enterprise Centre as registered service providers for training of existing and potential small businesses in Honiara and the provinces.
The prime minister said the Ministry had started a consultation process toward establishment of a ‘Small and Medium Enterprise Support Fund.’
The undertaking is expected to provide direct assistance for promotion and development of small and medium industries in rural economies.
