The South Pacific has long been a popular tourist destination for many international travellers and the region has enjoyed strong steady growth over the past few years. The South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), which has organised the tourism exchange, sees the need to creatively promote destinations to boost this dynamic industry as a critical part of its mandate.

“The event aims to bring together regional tourism operators and partners (sellers) and International tour operators and wholesalers (buyers), through a combination of pre-scheduled appointments and networking opportunities,” SPTO’s Chief Executive Officer Ilisoni Vuidreketi told media.

He also said that this event was ideal for tourism wholesalers seeking to grow their business into the region and is a unique and cost effective means of learning about travel and tourism in the South Pacific.

Mr. Vuidreketi said, “The SPTO recognizes and applaud the initiative taken by Pacific Island countries in promoting their destinations through national tourism trade shows. We have also identified the need to have one at a regional level to compliment the initiatives taken at national levels”.

Workshops and presentations will form part of the Exchange. Electronic and digital marketing and the effective use of social media will be a large part of the deliberations at the event, which will held at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland.

Pacific Islands Trade & Invest (PT&I) Media and Stakeholder Relationships Advisor Dev Nadkarni will present a session on the effective use of social media to augment mainstream media promotions.

PT&I has worked closely with SPTO in organising media events around the Expo.
