An event featuring and showcasing Pacific Islands businesses and opportunities for trade and investment has been announced. The Suva, Fiji-headquartered Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO) is organising the three day event, comprising an expo and a convention in Nadi, Fiji, between 25 and 27 June 2012.

As well as showcasing Pacific Islands projects, products and services, the event will have presentations and information sessions from trade and investment experts. Despite a number of trade agreements involving Pacific Island markets that have been signed or are in the process of being signed, awareness about them in the business community is low. The information sessions presented at the event would help businesses and industries keep abreast of the latest developments on the various trade regimes and negotiations, according to a PIPSO source.

Other information and discussion sessions will include topics like quarantine regimes, customs, labour mobility and other issues that affect Pacific trade and investment.

The expo component will provide opportunities for companies from Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia to display their wares to visitors over the three days of the event. A highlight of the expo is a special section for women entrepreneurs’ products and services from all around the Pacific Islands region.

A nine-member organising committee drawn from several regional organisations has been formed to oversee preparations for the event.
