Fiji 50th Anniversary Address

Tēnā koutou katoa

On behalf of the New Zealand Fiji Business Council, I wish Fijians all over the world an incredibly happy 50th Anniversary of Independence.

Every Fijian can be proud of their post-independence effort in making Fiji an envy of many by punching well above its weight in the international arena in many areas.

The New Zealand Fiji Business Council together with its sister council in Fiji has been part of this journey for most of these 50 years. Membership of the New Zealand Fiji Business Council has been well over hundred members for some time now.

The membership is diverse with SMEs (who make up the majority of the membership) to some of New Zealand’s largest companies and companies listed on the NZSE as well as other international stock exchanges.

Trade between New Zealand and Fiji goes back a long way with Fiji being New Zealand’s second double tax agreement partner and New Zealand Fiji’s third double tax agreement partner.

There is absolutely no doubt the councils have contributed and continue to contribute significantly towards the business relationships between the two countries.

This has been widely accepted at the highest levels i.e. by Prime Ministers of both countries. Two-way trade in goods and services between our two countries has already surpassed one billion dollars.

This makes Fiji one of New Zealand’s top twenty trading partners internationally. The members of the business council will continue their efforts to help grow the trading relationship to two billion by 2025.

Once again on behalf of the New Zealand Fiji Business Council, I wish Fiji and its people every success.

We are proud to be part of Team Fiji.

God bless Fiji – Kia Kaha

Nō reira tēnā koutou tēnā koutou tēnā koutou katoa
