J Punja brings new flavours of cookies at food show

J Punja NZ is a wholesaler and distributor of a wide range of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and commodities both from New Zealand and overseas including the Pacific Islands region, with a nationwide distribution network in New Zealand.

The company will be participating at the Auckland Food Show with a booth at the Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) New Zealand hosted Pacific Hub stand, which will feature nine food and beverage exporters from the Pacific Islands region beginning Thursday, July 27.

J Punja NZ has roots that trace back to the well-known Punja Group of Companies of Fiji, which has been in business since 1935. J Punja NZ Limited is a New Zealand company owned by Jagdish Punja, who also owns share in the parent group. In 2014, J Punja NZ Limited took over the import, export and wholesale distribution business of Punjas NZ Limited.

Speaking to Pacific Periscope about the company’s participation at the Auckland Food Show, Jagdish Punja said, “Last year was the first time for us, hence a learning experience, though I’d say overall it was a success. This year we are well prepared and will showcase our range of products in a more detailed manner. We are displaying and selling exciting new flavours of biscuits such as tropical coconut cookies, roasted peanut cookies and chocolate cookies, made from real chocolate, to name just a few.”

The company will be paying close attention to conversations with customers and visitors, Mr Punja said. “Several of the products such as the new range of cookies as well as our bottled water product, Aqua Water, together with our existing range will be widely taste-tested.

Jagdish Punja says, “We want to guide customers to the stores stocking our products near to their places of residence and let them know that they can also buy online.”

“We’d like to get the message across that Punjas Biscuits are vegetarian and Halal Certified. Also, Aqua Water has a high pH and is beneficial for health,” he added.

Product sampling and feedback gathering and analyses is an important part of participating in shows that offer direct customer interaction, Mr Punja said. “Products sampled last year came back with a very positive feedback and we have now placed some of these products like perfumed coconut oil with and biscuits with Foodstuffs.”

The company aims to promote and sample its wide range of products to as many customers, owners of retail outlets and wholesalers as possible, Mr Punja said.

“And for consumers, we want to guide them to the stores stocking our products near to their places of residence and let them know that they can also buy online. We aim build a relationship with customers rather than seeing our Auckland Food Show interaction as a one-off purchase,” he added.

The company will be drawing gift hampers throughout the show.

Mr Punja and Roneel Prakash will represent J Punja NZ Limited at the Auckland Food Show.
