The Papua New Guinea Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) through its Marketing and Export Promotion Unit provides assistance to PNG exporters.

This includes facilitating exporters’ participation at targeted international events such as in-bound & out-bound investment, trade missions, introducing exporters to international buyers, promoting PNG exporters in publications such as the PNG Exporters Directory.  Another aspect is facilitating and hosting export related workshops with networking partners.

In 2016, Pacific Islands Trade & Invest New Zealand partnered with PNG’s Investment Promotion Authority to host one of is Pacific Path to Market Workshops in Port Moresby.

The workshops presented a structured approach to exporting to the New Zealand market.  This included export capability workshops held in country.  Companies with the ability to export were identified and an invitation was extended to selected companies to take the next step in the Pacific Path to Market program.  The three main areas of the program include: Participation at Pasifika Festival, a Gap Analysis Workshop and Business to Business Meetings.

Ms Daure Kiromat is the Acting Manager – Marketing and Export Promotion Unit based in Boroko, PNG and commented on their participation at Pasifika Festival.

Firstly, it’s the opportunity where our companies experience firsthand what potential their respective products and or services have in the New Market.  For the companies, the theory lessons taught during the Path to Market workshop comes to perspective during the Pasifika Mission. We anticipate positive outcomes for our PNG companies being able to see their potential and meet prospective clients and more importantly establish a wider network for themselves. We stand ready to assist further assist upon completion of the mission and encourage other companies to utilize such opportunities as well.”

“Preparations are going well and all three companies and our IPA representative are gearing up for their travel next week,” she added.

PT&I Trade Commissioner Michael Greenslade welcomed the PNG Pacific Path to Market delegates to Pasifika Festival and said, “Hamamas mi pela long lukim yu!  We are delighted to welcome back to New Zealand the Papua New Guinean delegation.  Pacific Trade & Invest have a long-established relationship with the investment promotion authority of Papua New Guinea and the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce.  In the last three years, we have had two interns from Papua New Guinea one from Port Moresby and the second from Bougainville.  We are looking forward to growing the opportunities for Melanesian countries to export to New Zealand and Pacific Trade & Invest will be working alongside our friends from Papua New Guinea to ensure they develop long commercial relationships in New Zealand.”

Ms Kiromat added a few success stories to highlight the ongoing partnership.

Banz Kofi’s Patrick Killoran  was part of the 2016 Pasifika Trade Mission through this partnership.   Mr Killoran then participated in the  Auckland Food Show followed by Fine Food Australia in Melbourne with the PT&I Sydney office, Ms Kiromat said.

Another was Florence Bunari of Buna Treks and Tours who attended all three Path to Market Programs held in PNG.  She is also back at the Pasifika Festival for the second time.  In addition, Ms Bunari was introduced to the PT&I Sydney office, who are now assisting to set up a website partly funded by PT&I as the first stage of the “Digital Marketing Training.” Clients can visit to book tours or enquire at anytime. Ms Bunari was delighted with for the new website and the prospects coming through Ms Kiromat said.
