PNG’s promotion agency leads seven companies at Auckland show

Papua New Guinea’s lead Economic Development Agency, IPA (Investment Promotion Authority) is leading a delegation of seven companies at Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) NZ’s Path to the Pacific Trade Show at The Cloud on Auckland’s waterfront on Saturday 6 April. Pacific Periscope invited Daure Kiromat, Acting Manager-Marketing & Export Promotion Unit of IPA’s Investor Servicing and Promotion Division, to share her thoughts on leading the business delegation to showcase PNG’s products and services to New Zealand consumers.

Here is Ms Kiromat’s note:

The Papua New Guinea Path to Market mission delegation is excited on the opportunity to showcase and promote PNG products and services in the New Zealand market and is set for travel in the next week.

All of these businesses are new to the NZ Market in terms of their operations having a simple set up structure in PNG with sales either done through social media, wantoks word of mouth promotions and by participating in domestic events. Some of these businesses have had the privilege of being invited to exhibit during the APEC host year and received interest in their products from the visiting APEC delegates from around the world.

Such avenues also offer the opportunity for the Investment Promotion Agency (IPA) to identify SMEs who display interest and potential in the export sector and in partnership with Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) New Zealand each of the companies attended the 2018 Path to Market Capability workshop hosted both in Port Moresby and for the first time in Alotau, Milne Province.

We have two businesses from Alotau that are part of this mission to New Zealand to showcase coffee, vanilla, VCO and beauty products sourced locally; and promote traditional handwoven products and local body art fashion. We also have, for the first time, a representation of arts and crafts all the way from Bougainville; PNG’s very own fashion designers and their popular brands and products; and a representation of authentic arts and crafts from all PNG.

The IPA is most delighted in facilitating such vibrant and optimistic businesses on this Path to Market Mission to Auckland and would also like to acknowledge the great work by the PTI team in Auckland for such a grand pathway organized for all those participating from across the Pacific into the New Market.

One of our local designers is participating under the Wild Card Entry Invitation from PTI and will be showcasing her products at the Cloud on Saturday and deeply appreciates the opportunity given to her.
