Buna Treks and Tours is a 100% Papua New Guinea owned and operated tour company.  It is family-owned and employs over 30+ experienced guides and porters providing top service to their many clients and valued guests.

Florence Bunari is the Owner/Director of Buna Treks and Tours established in 2014.  The company specialises in Tourism and Arts and Crafts.  Ms Bunari was on the 2016 Pacific Islands Trade & Invest Path to Market mission attending the Pasifika Festival as part of the PNG delegation.

This year Ms Bunari’s company has been invited back as part of the PT&I Pacific Path to Market trade delegation to Pasifika Festival from March 25-26.  There are two other PNG companies attending in an overall group of 25 companies from eight Pacific Island nations.

Last year, PT&I ran its Pacific Path to Market programme in Port Moresby.  The programme is a structured approach to the New Zealand market starting with export capability building workshops in the Pacific Islands followed by an invitation to a select group of companies based on their potential to export.

PT&I works in partnership with the local Economic Development Agencies in each country to run the workshops and identify potential exporters.  There are three phases to the programme; (1) To attend Pasifika Festival, (2) Gap Analysis Workshop and (3) Business to Business meetings.

Ms Bunari is an experienced trekker in PNG and after working for other companies decided to put all her experience into action and start her own company.  She was buoyed by the great feedback from trekkers appreciative of her knowledge and experience.

“Our business is to make their trip to PNG safe, enjoyable and memorable.  We organise trekking tours on the Kokoda Trail, Mt Wilhem Trek, Tours of the once Battlefields of Gona, Sanananda and Buna.  We can easily connect you to other trusted and reputed tour sites around Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands,” Ms Bunari said.

They also support local arts and craft industry by providing a platform that serves the rural and hard-to-reach villages who create an assortment of hand-made products ranging from tapa cloth, to shell necklaces and traditional Bilum bags made from local fibre mainly from Northern Province (Oro)”

“Our passion is making the world see and experience how beautiful, special and unique our home is. Not just another place in the world to visit.  Our home is a place long forgotten by the discoverers, ignored by those rushing in the name of development.”

Ms Bunari wants visitors to explore the untouched virgin jungles, forests and ocean, and experience the simplicity of the traditional way of life that makes their home unique and special. “PNG is the last frontier to human’s search for tranquillity and peace” she said.

One way to truly experience Papua New Guinea, its rich and diverse culture and traditions, and the friendliness and resilience of the people is to choose a real PNG experience with Buna Treks and Tours she said.

“We are not an overseas tour operator, we are local and when you trek or take a tour with us, you are directly supporting and giving back to our local community and village,” Ms Bunari said.

Buna Treks and Tours complies with all license requirements for its operations including the Commercial Kokoda Track Operators License, holding Permit No: 097.

Buna Treks and Tours is a registered legal entity with the PNG Investment Promotion Authority and is a member of the PNG Tourism Industry Association. They also hold current Public Liability Insurance Cover and Workers Compensation Cover for their employees since the start of their business.
