PTI features nine Pacific exporters at Auckland Food Show

Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) New Zealand is hosting nine Pacific food and beverage exporters from around the Pacific Islands region at the Auckland Food Show between 26 and 29 July. The show is Auckland’s largest food and beverage event. The PTI-hosted participating companies displaying and selling products are from six countries including Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, French Polynesia, Solomon Islands and Niue. Individual companies are being profiled in Pacific Periscope in this edition and a special edition later this week.

The Auckland Food Show is a business-to-consumer show that this year will connect about 280 exhibitors with thousands of dedicated food lovers in Auckland and visitors who come in from other major cities around New Zealand.

PTI NZ’s featured Pacific Island companies at next week’s show are all alumni of the PTI NZ Path to Market programme, the export capability building programme conducted that is conducted in their home countries in association with economic development partners of their respective countries.

The post-workshop stage of the programme includes participation in a trade show in New Zealand that is designed to familiarise them to understand the New Zealand market and what their products and their companies should look like to break into the New Zealand market.

The Auckland Food Show provides an excellent platform for the participating Pacific Island food and beverage companies to build inroads into the retail market by meeting with potential distributors and building a relationship with thousands of New Zealand consumers.

As well as the possibility of finding importers and distributors, the companies can gauge customer feedback instantaneously by sampling product to visitors. More than 30,000 people visited the Auckland Food Show last year and similar numbers are expected at next week’s show. The average spend per customer last year was estimated at about $174.

In a survey of PTI’s featured Pacific Island food and beverage participants at the 2017 Auckland Food Show reported export deals of more than half a million dollars.

The companies being hosted this year are Ashon Ventures featuring a range of food products from Fiji; Distillerie Moux from French Polynesia with alcoholic beverages; Samoa’s E Life featuring turmeric drinks; The Krissy Company from Samoa with its Savai’i Popo coconut cream, palusami, snack foods and Samoan corned beef; Solomons Gold with chocolates made from Solomon Islands’ cacao; Papua New Guinea coffee from Namalu; Fiji Cacao featuring cacao products from Fiji and J Punja featuring a range of products from Fiji.
