Mentoring is the transfer of knowledge from one person who has knowledge, experience and confidence to another person who may benefit from it.
It can be invaluable and lead to growth, expansion, and improvement one never thought possible.
Business mentoring is simply mentoring in a business environment.
This year, the Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) New Zealand trade team is developing a new initiative to provide a demand gap for one to one business advisory.
Trade Development Manager Ian Furlong says currently, almost all training and mentoring is done on a group basis in the Pacific.
“The PTI NZ Business Mentoring Programme, run in-conjunction with the Path to Market initiative, will see selected business offered focused one on one support and advice,” Ian says.
“This programme is powerful as it targets support taking into account the unique circumstances of each individual business.”
It is hoped the programme will assist businesses get a head start following the COVID-19 pandemic, which has hit the Pacific economy hard.
Since this is the pilot programme, PTI NZ will carry out a trial with four companies from Fiji.
The team will be calling for expressions of interest as part of the selection process.
“The programme objective is to fast-track these selected businesses into the export market to New Zealand,” Ian says.
“If the pilot is successful, then we envisage looking to expand to other Pacific regions in the future,” Ian says.
