THE Fiji Export Council in partnership with the Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) NZ will be conducting a free one-day workshop to assist small medium enterprises who are on the verge of exporting to improve their processes before entering the export market.
“This would be the fourth consecutive year we have worked with our partners PTI to assist Fiji SMEs in export readiness,” said Fiji Export Council CEO Jone Cavubati.
“The aim is to provide SMEs with unique insights into the overseas market which is vital in order for them to be competitive.
“The Path to Market programme will identify, prepare, showcase, and promote products made in Fiji that has export potential,” Mr Cavubati said.
Local businesses such as Tropical Jewelry, Kavara Woodart, Copra Millers, AMA, Nama Fiji, Lami Kava and Green Gold Kava have all been part of this programme.
Among these SMEs, Green Gold Kava, which is now being sold in NZ and the USA have been part of the program ever since it started four years ago.
“Our product has grown from its humble beginnings in Savusavu in Vanua Levu to being distributed in several outlets across California and New Zealand,” said Green Gold Kava managing director Praveen Narayan.
“The next frontier for Green Gold Kava will be to up the ante in terms of product development in order to penetrate further into the America’s and also the European and Asian markets which has a lot of potential,” said Mr Narayan.
Losalini Kaisau Manufolau who set up Tropical Jewelry in 2010 was one of the companies selected this year to be part of the Path to Market trade mission to Auckland in March. Ms Manufolau said attending the Path to Market workshop had assisted her immensely.
“The Path to Market workshop has been very informative and helped me to interact with other business owners and glean from their experiences,” Ms Manufolau said.
“The council along with our partners PT&I NZ has prioritised improving SMEs Fijian Made products to the national and international markets.
“We are trying to help the SMEs in Fiji grow and promote their products so that they will be able to compete sustainably,” said Mr Cavubati.
This workshop is the first step in a seven step Pacific Path to Market program that can provide selected companies the opportunity to participate in a Trade Mission to NZ in March 2019 to look at export opportunities for themselves. The workshop covers the things that make companies successful and provides a snapshot of the New Zealand market. The topics include:
- The attributes of a successful company
- The attributes of a successful product
- What you should understand about your customers
- The power of your packaging and how to use it to your advantage
- Snapshot of the NZ market
- Developing your company story
- How to set prices and improve profitability
- Tips on selling your products
- How to achieve the best results from trade shows.
