Award-winning quality chocolate-maker Solomons Gold is participating with its range of chocolates made from Solomon Islands cacao at the Auckland Food Show between 26 and 29 July next week. Solomons Gold will join eight other Pacific Island food and beverage companies that Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) New Zealand is hosting at Auckland’s largest annual food event.
As well as displaying and selling its growing range of chocolate, the hand-crafted bean-to-bar chocolate-maker will be launching a new product, Director and General Manager Glenn Yeatman told Pacific Periscope. “We are launching our new 85g Dark Velvet and Velvet Nib healthy chocolate bars as well as our full 55g healthy chocolate range,” he said.
Solomons Gold parent C-Corp (Commodity Corporation Pty Ltd) began making chocolate from Solomon Islands cocoa in 2014. The company specially selects and grades the best Solomon Islands dry beans that it receives from growers at their Ranadi warehouse in Honiara. These then are exported to the Solomons Gold factory in Tauranga, New Zealand, where the final products are made.
The Solomons Gold range is made from one-hundred per cent natural ingredients it is also nuts-free, dairy free, refined sugar free, soy free and GMO free, Mr Yeatman explains. The Solomon Islands farmers do not use fertiliser, due to natural mulching and the ideal growing conditions for cacao plantations.
“Basically, Solomons Gold is totally guilt-free,” he adds.
In July last year the company came up trumps at the ninth edition of the Academy of Chocolate Awards in London in the ‘Bean to Bar’ category beating 600 contestants worldwide with its Smooth Dark 70 per cent Solomon Islands Single Origin chocolate.
PTI NZ is proud to have been associated with Mr Yeatman and Solomons Gold for several years offering marketing and communications support. PTI NZ also assisted the company with the purchase of a conching machine at its Tauranga factory in its earliest days.
PTI NZ has also hosted Solomons Gold at other food shows like the Chocolate and Coffee show and the Auckland Food Show previously.
“Participating in food shows puts us in front of customers directly,” says Mr Yeatman. “It’s the best opportunity to raise the awareness of our products and why our healthy chocolate is what it is.”
Apart from the new 85gm Dark Velvet and Velvet Nib healthy chocolate bars that will be displayed at the Auckland Food Show, Solomons Gold is also working on a health/protein bar “for the gym junkies,” Mr Yeatman says.
