Rohan Lord

Pacific Trade Invest NZ are thrilled to welcome new team member Rohan Lord into our hardworking, crazy but fun family.

Rohan started on the 11th November with us and has been diving headfirst into learning all about who PTI is and what we do.

Where he’s come from

Previously working for large private corporations Tegel, General Mills and Cadbury Rohan brings with him a wealth of knowledge, and contacts (huzzah) within the Blue Pacific region.

While he does have a direct cultural affiliation with the islands, as a keen sailor and surfer Rohan says the Pacific Islands hold a special place in his heart.

“It’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Even though in my last role I was selling goods into the Pacific existing policies did not allow  travel for work. So, I feel fortunate that my personal life as a keen surfer and sailor has allowed me to travel all over the place and throughout the Pacific.

“It meant that even though I was in a country like Vanuatu to surf, I could take the chance to go and say hi to the people who were buying our product.  A lot of the people we sold goods to came to visit us here in Aotearoa New Zealand, so this was an opportunity to build Pacific customer relationships that way.

On the Blue Pacific

“I think you can learn a lot about people by seeing them in their natural environment. When you take the time to visit people on their home turf it shows you respect their time, where they’re from, who they are, and importantly – understand their businesses.

“I know I still have a lot to learn about the Blue Pacific, and I’m grateful to have this opportunity to do so. Definitely looking forward to those Pacific bubbles starting to crop up about the place,” he says.

One of Rohan’s aspirations for the role is learning about current practices when it comes to get a product from farm to the NZ market. He is also keen to take current practices and ensure they are sustainable, bio-diverse, and where possible empowering women and helping new generations to understand the prize which they have beneath them – their land – and all the opportunity which comes from understanding how best to use it.
