Pacific Kingdom Crackers look to crack Kiwi market

Kennedy Penitani is the owner of the Falema Ha’amoko Bakery in Tonga producing Pacific Kingdom Cracker Biscuits. The crackers are marketed under the brand Anytime JMJ Crackers. Pacific Kingdom Crackers is a division of Sitani Mafi Co Ltd. 📷The family business was established in 1975 by Mr Penitani’s grandparents Mr Sitani and Musie Mafi and their sons Supileo, (CEO) Setefano, Sepasitiano, Patelisio.

The business ran smoothly until 2013 when machinery problems caused the factory to shut down.  But Mr Kennedy Penitani revived Pacific Kingdom Cracker Biscuits in June the same year.

Now the company has grown to 25 employees. They have made great use of the online website eztong.com selling Anytime JMJ Crackers in 2.25 kg boxes and 4.5 kg boxes.

The company Pacific Kingdom Crackers is looking for buyers and distributors for their two products – plain cracker biscuits and coconut cracker biscuits. The biscuits use fresh pure shredded coconuts.

This is the first time Mr Penitani has been part of the Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) New Zealand Path to Market programme’s trade show in New Zealand.

“I am humble for the opportunity,” Mr Penitani says.

Mr Penitani attended the PTI NZ Path to Market programme in Nuku’alofa last year.

The Path to Market programme is a structured, multi-staged approach to helping Pacific exporters or potential exporters to understand the New Zealand market. Local agencies identify prospective businesses to attend the in-country workshop. From there businesses can be selected to move onto the next step of the programme involving a trip to New Zealand to market test their products at an event. This year PTI New Zealand is hosting more than 40 Pacific businesses on a five-day programme that involves a a one-day event called Path to the Pacific Trade Show at The Cloud on Auckland’s waterfront. Post event, feedback seminars, site visits and one-to-one business meetings will be held for the Path to Market programme participants only.
