Path to Market Auckland 2019 – Meet the Cook Islands delegation

Over the next few weeks, Pacific Periscope will be profiling the 40 or so businesses from across the Pacific Islands region attending the Pacific Path to Market programme in Auckland in April. 📷Path to Market is Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) NZ’s structured multi-stage programme that helps Pacific Island exporters and potential exporters understand the New Zealand market. The programme includes an important one-day showcase at The Cloud on Saturday, 6 April. Businesses will practice learnings acquired during the Path to Market programme; checking consumer responses to labelling and packaging and adjusting their sales pitch to their target audience. This week, Pacific Periscope starts with profiling small businesses from the Cook Islands that will feature at The Cloud on April 6.

BTIB leads the delegation

Mona Taio is the Trade & Marketing Officer from the Business Trade and Investment Board (BTIB) of the Cook Islands. She will lead a delegation of four businesses – KukiTime 4 Kids, an educational CD and lyric book in Cook Islands Maori; Tivaevae Collectables, selling traditional and modern Cook Islands Tivaevae (Quilts); McLeod Pearls of Manihiki, a seller of cultured black pearls, loose and set jewellery, gems and other jewellery and Fave Designs, a clothing apparel range of caps, mens floral shirts, Tees, singlets, womens tops and surfwear. The first three companies are featured in this edition of Pacific Periscope.

The Cook Islands businesses were identified as potential exporters following PTI NZ’s Path to Market workshop in Rarotonga in 2018. Ms Taio said they were ready to take on the next step in terms of their products to get a better understanding of the NZ market.

“They wish to gain more knowledge about their products and how they can better themselves and their business,” she said.

As part of BTIB’s existing client base ready for export to New Zealand they are hoping to link up with Auckland distributors.

“We’d like the Cook Islands to have a presence in Auckland with Cook Islands made products, we are hoping through these channels we may be able to get a few products through the market.”

BTIB is a Cook Islands government funded agency to facilitate investment in the Cook Islands, promote trade to and from the Cook Islands and regulate, monitor and control the direction of foreign investment in the Cook Islands.   For more information email Ian Furlong, PTI NZ Trade Development Manager on ian.f@pacifictradeinvest.co.nz
